Each summer the staff of Herbert Scott are treated to a summer outing and for 2013 a trip to the Cookery School in London was in store.
So on a sunny August day we met up at an inconspicuous door just off Oxford Street in London, nervous about whether our culinary skills would hold up or whether our inadequacies in the kitchen would be exposed.
Our task for the day was to cook a 4 course Italian based meal under the strict guidance of the cookery school teachers. The good news was that should we succeed we would be eating a fabulous lunch!
First course was ricotta and lemon ravioli served with a mint butter sauce. What could go wrong? We were shown how to make the pasta dough and then were left to our own devices to roll it out and make the ravioli using the delicious filling made by Tracey and David.
Next was the lamb, seared by me then and popped into the oven to join the vegetables prepared expertly by Jennie and Kevin.
Claire and Tracey were on dessert duty, Torte Caprese (a flourless chocolate cake) and the most difficult dish of the day, macaroons.
After 3 hours of toiling in the kitchen we sat down to enjoy our hard work and I think we were all surprised at how delicious it was!
Now to plan for next year…
