Here at Herbert Scott, we are committed to hiring young talent into the profession and supporting them through their development. With this in mind, we are proud to announce a promotion for our apprentice Danny Rudden who has joined our team of technical wizards, or as we like to call them Financial Planning Assistants.
Danny joined Herbert Scott in September 2022 as an administrator on our seventh apprenticeship scheme, and his first role within financial services after leaving University with a 1st in Economics. Danny chose to pursue a career in financial planning because ‘I wanted to understand how finance could be more applicable to people’s lives at a personal level as well as in my own life. I liked the idea of developing expertise in an area where I could have a big impact on people’s lives.’
When asking Danny what drove him to join Herbert Scott he said ‘I really resonated with their outlook and the way they care about their clients. The interview process was also very different to what I was used to, we had a genuine discussion asking questions back and forth. I learnt a lot about the profession from this interaction which reassured me I was making the right career choice. The fun, relaxed, authenticity of the team was exactly the environment I needed to flourish and feel confident in my progression.’
Danny is studying for his Diploma in Regulated Financial Services through an apprenticeship scheme supported by Herbert Scott. He receives study hours during the working week, with interactive classes allowing him to ask lots of questions. When discussing what has been the most instrumental part of his progression, Danny say’s ‘everyone is approachable, I don’t fear asking questions, and being given the time and space to learn and observe others’.
Danny’s new role will see him interacting one-on-one with our wonderful clients. We wanted to know what he enjoys most about his new promotion. Danny says ‘ I can really see how what I’m learning in my studies is applied to people’s lives. I am enjoying being in meetings with clients and seeing how we help them. I find the cashflow planning element extremely interesting, how changes in life events can affect the outcome and seeing the impact on clients being able to visually understand their finances which is brilliant. The new role is challenging but I enjoy always learning and developing myself which instils more confidence in me.’
We are on the lookout for our next Danny at Herbert Scott, if you know anyone who would like to join the profession which is highly rewarding and fun, please do get in touch.
