After many years without hosting work experience students, Herbert Scott was delighted to welcome two more enthusiastic individuals into the firm this summer. It’s been a rewarding opportunity to support young people in developing life skills and exploring potential career paths in financial services.
The students, Joe and Leily, shared reflections on their time with us.
Joe, currently studying Business and English Literature A-levels at Cardinal Newman College in Hove, also plays rugby for his college and Lewes 1s. With a strong interest in finance, Joe joined us to gain insight into the industry. During his week, he explored systems like Volume and Voyant, learned about different roles within financial planning, and received guidance on interview techniques and qualifications. Joe said:
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my week at Herbert Scott. The team have been incredibly welcoming, and I’ve learnt so much about the business and the financial services industry. This experience has given me a much clearer idea of what I aim to do in the future and how to reach it.”
Leily, a 16-year-old student at BHASVIC studying Maths, Economics, and Geography, joined us for her first experience in a professional environment. She connected her academic studies to real-world financial work and explored tools like Voyant and Volume. Leily particularly enjoyed learning about investment portfolios and how market conditions affect performance. She shared:
“This experience has confirmed my interest in studying Economics at university. The team at Herbert Scott were incredibly helpful, offering valuable advice and helping me understand the opportunities available in finance.”
We’re proud to have supported these students and look forward to continuing this initiative in the future. Their enthusiasm and curiosity brought fresh energy to the office—and reminded us of the importance of investing in future talent.
