With more than three decades of experience in financial services, Tracey Payne brings a rare combination of leadership, technical expertise, and genuine client‑focused care to her role as Managing Director of Herbert Scott.
Her career began in London with Hogg Robinson IFA before progressing into senior investment management roles as a Discretionary Fund Manager at Adams & Remers Solicitors in Lewes and later at Thesis Asset Management in Gatwick and Brighton. Along the way, Tracey built an impressive academic and professional track record: she holds a BA (Hons) in Financial Services, a Diploma in Financial Planning, and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments (CISI)—one of the highest designations in the profession.
Leadership at Herbert Scott
Appointed Managing Director in 2025, Tracey’s role places her at the heart of Herbert Scott’s strategic direction. She is responsible for delivering the firm’s annual business plan and ensuring every part of the business continues to run smoothly.
Alongside this, Tracey also serves as Investment Director. In this capacity, she leads the development and evolution of Herbert Scott’s Investment Philosophy—using her extensive asset‑management background to help grow and safeguard the wealth entrusted to the firm.
In Tracey’s words: “Without doubt, the best part of my role is when you know your involvement in a client’s life has had a meaningful impact ”.
A Holistic Approach to Financial Planning
After many years managing investment portfolios, Tracey realised something was missing—an opportunity to build deeper relationships with clients and truly understand the purpose behind their wealth.
This led her to reshape her career and become a fully holistic financial planner. Today, she combines her investment expertise with comprehensive financial planning, enabling clients to achieve clarity, confidence, and long‑term financial wellbeing. She also heads up Herbert Scott’s Investment Committee and is especially proud of the robust Investment Philosophy she has played a key role in developing.
Life Beyond the Office
Tracey lives in Hurstpierpoint with her husband Richard and their 17‑year‑old son, Oliver. Her daughter, Sophie, is completing a six‑year medical degree at Oxford University—something Tracey is immensely proud of.
Outside of work, community and wellbeing are central themes in her life. She serves as secretary of the local tennis club, where she also plays for the ladies’ teams. When not on the court, Tracey can often be found walking her dog through the fields around Hurstpierpoint—her favourite place to unwind.
She also enjoys gardening on her allotment, Pilates, cooking, and catching up with friends over a good coffee.
