Work Experience – Sophie Packham

We’ve had the pleasure of welcoming Sophie, into the office over the past month. She is an Economics and International Development Student from the University of Sussex and previously attended school in Lewes. It’s been an absolute joy having her as part of the team. From day one, she impressed us with her maturity, eagerness to learn, and genuinely friendly approach. Sophie communicated confidently and professionally throughout her time with us, quickly building rapport with colleagues and making a really positive impression.

Sophie said “I have felt so welcomed and learnt so much at Herbert Scott over the past month. I’ve been able to see how the theory and concepts I study in economics are applied in the workplace and had the opportunity to observe how cash flow models are built and used within financial planning. By being invited into meetings I have also gained a clear understanding of how financial advice is delivered in practice.

The team noticed my interest in the different investment categories and levels of risk offered to clients, so took the time to explain how these portfolios are tailored depending on individuals’ goals and risk appetite. During my time I was introduced to portfolio rebalancing and learnt how investment portfolios are adjusted to remain aligned with clients’ goals and levels of risk.

This experience has strengthened my knowledge and will be extremely valuable as I continue my studies and pursue a future career in finance.”

It’s been wonderful to see Sophie develop over the past few weeks, and we have no doubt she has a very bright future ahead of her. We were also very grateful for the thoughtful leaving gifts she brought, including biscuits all round and treats for our four-legged team members!
