On Thursday 20th July, the full complement of Herbert Scott employees ventured to Filching Manor in Polegate to compete in a Go-Karting extravaganza! The team had varying degrees of experience in the karting world, so once we were all kitted out with helmets and overalls, we went through a pre-race briefing where we were told about the various intricacies of the go kart and what the different coloured flags meant when waved by the race marshals.
Once the briefing was completed, we had a few laps to get used to the cars and the track, before beginning with qualifying! This was a 10 minute session where we were competing to try and achieve the fastest lap time for grid position for the main ‘grand-prix’. There were several skids and spins but eventually we all got an uninterrupted lap completed, with Kevin achieving the fastest lap and number 1 position on the grid.
We then returned to the pits for some light refreshments, and to analyse our times, before heading back out onto the track for our first of two 15 minutes ‘grand-prix’ sessions. The marshals organised us in grid order, and we then set off again with the objective of completing as many laps as we could! I was surprised at how fast everyone was managing to go once they got into their rhythm, and although 15 minutes doesn’t sound like a long time it was quite hard work! After the two 15-minute sessions the results were in, Daniel came 3rd, Ben 2nd and Kevin 1st. Here they are on the podium with their medals!

Once the racing was over, we headed to the Plough and Harrow pub in Litlington for a well-deserved pub lunch. I think everyone greatly appreciated a more relaxed activity and a hearty meal after the fun and frivolity on the race track! Overall, it was an extremely enjoyable day for the whole team.
